Though I love putting together these “interior design trends” posts each year, I always like to preface my post with the caveat that I kind of hate trends. Ha. I know. That feels counterintuitive. But I believe – more and more so with each passing year – that one’s home really should be a reflection of each individual person. If you love it, please go for it. And if you can’t stand it, that’s perfectly okay, too. In the grand scheme of things who am I, really, to tell you what works for you?
I could make this post one million years longer as there is so much that’s inspiring me lately. Just so many things that I’m seeing in abundance that I’m dying to draw inspiration from myself. But when designing for myself and my own clients, I prefer to stick to the classics so things won’t feel dated in a moment’s notice. Following are a few interior design trends for 2023 that I’m personally loving. The best part is that each one is rooted in timeless elements. Though the following design trends are undoubtedly hot these days, if used carefully and intentionally (and maybe not all at once), I don’t believe that any of them are going to feel dated anytime soon.
PS: Check out my interior design trends post for 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017 & 2016. While all of them were most definitely in the spotlight that year, I still subscribe to just about all of them

Interesting and some lovely rooms…I have had a plate wall for years so either I was out of style for years or the style finally caught up with me! Did not like the dark kitchen…it may look great but to work in one is difficult and depressing
I agree! I love the look of a dark kitchen but need to work in a light and bright space, personally. To each their own for sure! Great news about the plate wall though ;)
When my husband and I married …in 1980…his only decorating stipulation was that I never put plates on the walls…he lived in a boarding house in college and the elderly landlady had them everywhere…
hahaha I hate to admit it but a LOT of the things I’m seeing these days are coming from the 80’s and 90’s! Some of the photos I’m seeing on Instagram almost look like they could be in the Home Alone movies in some cases (updated versions, of course)
I love the patterned floors and am debating what to put in my kitchen. We have hard wood in the front foyer, carpeting in the family room that leads to the kitchen which currently has cork but needs replaced. I keep debating whether I should replace the carpet and cork with hardwood or just tile the kitchen. Amy thoughts are appreciated. I live in Kentucky and have cold winters.
I, personally, am such a fan of hardwood in the kitchens. It’s much easier on the joints and warmer in the winters (unless you have heated floors of course, which is extra luxe and glorious)
I truly appreciate this blog, it is indeed advantageous to all readers.
