The first time I ever took a trip abroad I was sixteen years old and spent a week in London, and a week in Paris with all of the ladies on my stepmom’s side of the family. There were eight of us in total and it absolutely fortified, and inspired, my love for travelling. It’s been so long since that trip, and while I know we had a blast I don’t remember much other than my grandmother, who would live off of foie gras if she was able to, being completely in her element in Paris. Justin and I will be headed there this summer to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary, and to say I’m excited would be the biggest understatement of them all.
You’ve all been so helpful with similar posts of this nature, so I’d love to know. What’s your favourite thing to do in Paris? And if you could only eat at ONE restaurant, which one would it be*?
*I mean, if you had a list of restaurants to try too I wouldn’t be mad about it

There are too many favourite things! You will have a great time no matter where you are in Paris! Where are you staying? What arrondissement? If you haven’t already booked, I recommend staying in the 6th. On my last trip in February, I stayed at the Madison. It was perfect. Here’s what I wrote about after that trip:

This is a note I sent to a friend when asked for my Paris recommendations. “If I had 3 days in Paris (sounds like the start of an essay), I would go to the Orangerie to see Monet’s Waterlilies, try to catch a concert at St. Chapelle, light a candle at Notre Dame, eat an amazingly good steak at Le Severo, blow the budget with lunch at L’Atelier du Joel Robuchon (St. Germain, not Etoile), window shop on rue Jacob in the 5th (great vintage Bakelite at Tiany Chambard, no. 38), have tea at the original Mariage Freres on rue de Bourg Tibourg and shop for some tea to bring home, buy macarons (and perhaps have another tea) at Laduree, have lunch at Chez L’Ami Jean and admire its handsome Basque chef (My husband understands), and walk, walk, walk. I’d also check and see if any of the museums had an exhibit that struck my fancy (last trip we saw great art at the Foundation Louis Vuitton, the Pompidou, and at the Musee de Arts Decoratifs, but with only 3 days I wouldn’t want to load up on museums). I’ve heard from several sources that the Atelier des Lumieres has an amazing Van Gogh exhibit going right now, so that would be on my list in my imaginary 3 day trip.”

I went to college in Paris and my number one favorite thing to do is have Hot Chocolate at Angelina’s on the Rue de Rivoli. It is beyond delicious and the space is beautiful. OMG I seconcd this hot chocolate- I was last in Paris 6 years ago and it is reigns supreme as the best hot chocolate of my LIFE.

So, you’re going to get some amazing suggestions, I’m sure but I will give you a silly suggestion that you won’t regret reading. Do not miss going to the pharmacies. They are all over the city. They have a green square with a cross in them. they are filled with the most amazing products. Every day finds for a Parisian, but a treat for us. Lotions and skin products. Hair (I have thinning hair and use a Renee Furterer product that is the only thing that actually regrows hair!) I can get it on amazon but the one from Paris seems to be better and more potent. Shimmer lotions and even medications are better. I was swollen from all my traveling (and eating and drinking too) and got an over the counter water pill. Holy cow! I lost about 3 pounds in excess water. Back to normal. Any ailment, ask the pharmacist. Enjoy!!

My favourite city! I would say a must is to go visit Les Brocantes at St-Ouen (the flea market). You will find a myriad of treasures! Along the Seines you’ll find Les Bouquinistes- they are a group of booksellers of used and antique books, posters, etc. My favourite restaurant is Chez Allard-.the food is divine! I also loved Aux Lyonnais- the decor is everything you imagine Paris to be! Of course, you must stop at Cafe de Flore for a glass of Champagne et frites! Enjoy!
