It’s A…

gender reveal_1I’m so excited to announce that we’re going to be welcoming a tiny baby…

[break]GIRL[break]

into our family!

It’s been such a whirlwind already, and while I think it goes without saying that both Justin and I would have been thrilled with a healthy baby of any sex, there’s something about a little girl that just sets my heart aflutter.

While I know that her sex won’t necessarily have any impact on her personality. I mean, who knows, she could be the most masculine female on the playground (which I fully and wholeheartedly support!) I have to admit I’m already daydreaming about mother-daughter spa days, high tea dates, getting dressed up in our very best to go watch the Nutcracker Ballet at Christmas, and so on and so forth. And if either Justin or I has any say, the kid will also be a whiz at changing a flat tire, and will most definitely have a hockey stick in hand as soon as her hand eye coordination is up to snuff.

While we weren’t comfortable with a big gender reveal amongst our family and friends (I cannot stand being the centre of attention!), the idea of tearing open an envelope felt a little too anticlimactic for us. So we had a local bakery bake us a cake with either pink or blue frosting found within. We were originally planning on going out for a special dinner just the two of us and then cutting our cake for dessert (which felt celebratory and extra special in its own right), however a bout of nausea and exhaustion quickly squashed those plans. We ultimately ended up ordering take out, which we enjoyed in our sweatpants, followed by the most exciting cake I’ve ever had the chance to ingest. In retrospect it was cozy, intimate, and absolutely perfect in every way. Definitely an evening I won’t soon forget.

  7. Linda says:

You are so adorable and I’m so excited for you. I love that your planning to do the dressing up and taking her to see The Nutcracker — we did that for our daughter (now almost 50 years old). I loved creating special memories, but some of them had to go by the wayside like a special sweet-sixteen birthday party. She refused, so I sent her to Florida for a week with her grandparents — which she loved.

Plan on being a flexible mom and enjoy those once in a life-time moments while you can.. they go so fast, especially that first year. You can find yourself ‘wishing’ her life away with things like; “I can’t wait until she walks. I can’t wait until she says her first word…” You’ll see. xx

  8. Congrats! She’ll be a very lucky girl!

  9. Nicole says:

Very exciting! Congratulations! Baby girls are so sweet.
