My Mom’s Kitchen ::The Finishes::

If you’re new to my mom’s kitchen renovation series of posts, you might want to start here

When it comes to selecting hard finishes for any space I tackle, I tend to like to err on the safer side of things and opt for classic, timeless, materials in a more neutral palette. I mean, a throw pillow or a piece of furniture can be easily switched out if you grow tired of it. But it’s a little more difficult to re-tile your kitchen five years down the line, you know what I mean?

Knowing full well that my mom plans on living in her current home for as long as her body allows her, the focus on timelessness for her kitchen renovation was paramount. This will most definitely be her forever kitchen, and it needs to act as such and stand the test of time. So when it came to selecting all of the hard finishes for my mom’s kitchen, we stuck to my rule of thumb and largely stuck to neutrals. The secret? Much like my tricks for decorating in all white (which you can read about here!) Playing with texture, material, scale, and tone reigns queen.

Here’s a peek at all of our hard finishes we’re working with. I’m also sharing all of the exact sources in the credits below.

    I love all her choices. It will be classic & timeless. The goldenrod leather on the bench will add a cheery touch, that I’m sure she will repeat in littles. Can’t wait to see the reveal.

    Would you mind sharing hat size knob you used, the 1 1/4″ or 1 5/8″? I found my way to your project photos while searching for examples of the Freestone pulls and I really like your choice to mix it with the Newport. My guess is that you used the smaller knob but wanted to confirm. thanks!
